2015-2016 Calendar on the School Board Agenda

Next year’s school calendar is due to be voted on at the December 17th School Board meeting at the Kelly Center. The Calendar Committee faced a major challenge because Labor Day 2015 is so late.  According to state law our academic year cannot start until September 8, 2015. The final draft of the committee’s plan made the Wednesday before Thanksgiving a day off for students and teachers and winter vacation almost two weeks. Classes will be closed December 23rd and will resume January 4th. The last day of classes will be June 23rd and the final teacher work day will be June 24th.

PWFT representatives on the calendar committee voted for this plan because it came closest to the wish list that the committee developed before applying their goals to the plans proposed. Before PWFT shares its official position with the school board we want to offer our members an opportunity to make your preferences known.

Please send an e-mail to whospjr@yahoo.com or kathysinfo.russell@gmail.com to give us a yes or no vote. A yes vote means that you support the plan as it is and a no vote means you oppose it in its current form. We are asking those members who vote no to add a comment stating what changes you would like to be made in the plan.

In order for us to count the votes and suggested changes in preparing our own report to the School Board, we need you to respond by Friday, December 12th. This is your chance to help us represent you most effectively.

Members who wish to speak during citizen comment time at the School Board meeting should contact Bill Hosp at 571-330-8623 for instructions on how to sign up and deliver your message as effectively as possible.

We are including attachments of the current draft of the proposed school year calendar in two formats for your information. The formats show important dates highlighted on a calendar draft and also in list form.

Please review the attachments and respond as you see fit. This helps us to help you.
